Jan Christian Berg - Managing Director

Jan has nearly 30 years experience in management and executive positions in the international shipping, oil and energy businesses.

He holds a Master of Science in Marine Technology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and a Master of Business Administration from UCD, Ireland.  Jan is a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNaME).

He spent time at Dubai Drydocks and was a superintendent with Norway’s DSD Shipping. He was Senior Vice President, Fleet Management and Technology at Norgas

(I. M. Skaugen) and also held the position of Commercial Manager in both Halliburton Subsea and Halliburton Pipeline and Process Services.

Jan is Norwegian and speaks Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and English.  He founded Berg Maritime Management Limited (trading as Maritime Management) in November 2002.

John Toner – Technical Director

John has been a naval architect, marine engineer and ship surveyor for over thirty years; with experience of survey work, newbuilding supervision, project management, marketing and government and classification society issues.

He is a Chartered Engineer and holds a BEng (Hons) in Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding.  He is also a Lead Assessor for ISO9000.  John is the President of the Irish branch of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST).  He is also the Technical and Regulatory Advisor to the Federation of Irish Fishermen (FIF) and also a member of the board of the Irish Turkish Business Association (ITBA).

He joined Bank Line in 1977 and qualified as a marine engineer, later studying naval architecture at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.   He spent many years with Lloyd’s Register of Shipping in London, Newcastle, Dublin, Istanbul and Venice.  More recently he was a senior ship surveyor with the Irish government’s Marine Survey Office in Dublin.

John is Irish, joined Maritime Management in 2004, and speaks English and Turkish.
