In the RV "Keary" project, Maritime Management recommended a catamaran design which was modified for the employment of multibeam echo sounders and its special operation. For the building of the vessel, Maritime Management negotiated a contract with the shipyard and executed the building supervision.
The task at hand was to design and build a purpose built catamaran survey vessel and equip it with state of the art surveying instruments for operations in shallow waters around the coast of Ireland.
The keel of the "Keary" was laid in 2008 and the vessel was delivered later the same year.
The 15m fully equipped and state of the art hydrographic and geophysical vessel is used to deliver survey data that will meet all required international survey specifications. The survey equipment includes a multibeam echo sounder for imaging the seabed, GPS navigation, side scan sonar, seabed profiler and an automatic identification system.
The "Keary" is named after the late Ray Keary of the Geological Survey of Ireland who for years had quietly championed the value of Ireland's marine resources.
